Deschutes Black Butte XXVII PicmonkeyBlack Butte XXVII

Deschutes Brewery

Bend , Oregon

Style: Imperial Porter

Alcohol: 11.6%

IBUs: 60

Serving Style: 22-ounce bottles and kegs (our sample from bottle)

Availability: This barrel-aged version of Deschutes' flagship Black Butte Porter is released annually. Its composition varies somewhat from year-to-year and distribution is limited.

Appearance:   “Very black with a thin beige head. No lacing in the glass.”

Aroma:   “Vanilla . . . and you get the Bourbon in it, for sure. There’s cocoa and a little bit of roastiness, followed by fruit notes. In my opinion you get cherry and then stone fruits like the apricots.”

Taste:   “Chocolate and cocoa. Coffee. There’s a tartness from the pomegranate and the apricot. It has a thick, almost chewy mouthfeel. The alcohol is warming, but hot overpowering. As it warms up, the Bourbon shines through.

Food Affinity:   “With any kind of steak it would really be good. BBQ. Pretty much any kind of chocolate dessert.”
