Style: IPA

Alcohol: 7%

IBUs: 70

Serving Style: 12-ounce bottles and cans, kegs (our sample from draft)

Availability: Year-round in most of the western U.S.


Appearance:   “Golden . . . no, almost a light orange-tinted shade. Creamy, off-white head.”

Aroma:   “Wow. They weren’t kidding about the grapefruit. I’ve had their regular Sculpin and there’s a strong hop and fruit presence in that beer (stone fruits and some tropical fruit), but the grapefruit is really apparent in the nose of this one.”

Taste:   “There’s something about the interplay of the hops and the grapefruit that I really like. There’s a ‘brightness’ to the flavor and the hop/grapefruit combination seems like a really good balance. There’s plenty of taste, but it seems to go down easy. Perhaps too easy—at 7% alcohol maybe I shouldn’t have too many of these.”

Food Affinity: I have no idea what a sculpin tastes like, but I think this would go well with some kind of fish or seafood. Cod in a light beer batter would be fine. Or big grilled prawns. Smoked Albacore, served chilled with a good aioli.”
