North Coast Old Rasputin Picmonkey

Old Rasputin

North Coast Brewing

Fort Bragg, California

Style: Imperial Stout

Alcohol: 9%

IBUs: 75

Serving Style: Kegs and 12-ounce bottles

Availability: Year around

Appearance:   “It’s probably the darkest beer I’ve even encountered. It’s virtually black (except for its tan head).”

Aroma:   “There’s some malt, but mostly chocolate and coffee here.”

Taste:   ‘Full feeling in the mouth. There’s lots of that roasted coffee personality, but it’s creamy, too, and has some caramel notes. Sweet dark chocolate offsets the bitterness in the finish. It’s a ‘sipping stout’ whose alcohol makes it a fine companion to a snowy night.”

Food Affinity:   “Hard to think of what to eat with this. Maybe a savory snack like a Scotch egg with some Colman’s mustard, but I think of sweet things like chess pie or a dark fudge brownie.”
