Sidecar Orange Pale Ale

Sierra Nevada Brewery

Chico, CA

Style: American pale ale with orange peel

Alcohol: 5.3%

IBUs: 35

Serving style: 12-ounce bottles and kegs

Availability: Nationwide, year round

Appearance:   “Dark golden in color—or maybe I should say ‘orange’. Good white head, but it doesn’t last too long.”

Aroma:   “I can hardly notice any beer aroma—no hops of maltiness that I can pick out.”

Taste:   “Totally different from Sierra Nevada’s flagship Pale Ale. They say the IBUs in both these beers are nearly the same, but there’s nothing like the bitterness of their regular pale ale. I like that beer, but I like this one, too, even though they’re totally different. You can really taste the presence of the orange. This one is refreshing, but there’s some punch to it. That bitterness sneaks in after several sips.”

Food Affinity:   “Something served with a fruit salsa seems a natural. How about big, beer-battered shrimp? It might offset the spiciness of some Szechwan dishes.”
