TASTE News Service, July 6, 2016 – Residents of California’s Capital have embraced the idea of eating dinner by the river. Actually, not just by the river, but right over the top of it. The Tower Bridge might seem an unlikely setting for something billed as a Gala Dinner, but the event is becoming a sold-out tradition.

The September 25th dinner is the culmination of this summer’s Farm-to-Fork celebrations. Guests at this family-style meal will be treated to a feast highlighting a collaboration between the Sacramento region’s farmers ad chefs. The setting is the Tower Bridge, a busy span handling vehicular traffic into and out of the city of Sacramento the other 364 days of every year. The site is actually symbolic. Sacramento once apologized for its agricultural connection. Recently it decided to embrace it.

Diners looking east from their bridge table seating above the Sacramento River will see Capitol Mall leading up to the handsome State Capitol building itself. A glance to the west gives a preview to the productive fields of Yolo County, one of several very productive agricultural areas surround metropolitan Sacramento.

The somewhat offbeat elegance of the event will be continued this year at what is billed as a Dessert Social sponsored by Cadillac on the adjacent Promenade.
