Lake Tahoe is undoubtedly one of the most pristine and beautiful travel destinations in the United States.

Given its altitude, Lake Tahoe is often thought of as a winter destination with bountiful snowfields and an array of exciting, winter activities on offer like snowmobiles, ice carving and hot chocolates by outdoor fire pits. But, it's bountiful beauty is perhaps only magnified during the summer months and perhaps an even more exciting array of adventurous activities and entertainment on offer for those wanting to escape the heat and the hustle and bustle of the city. Only a short drive from San Francisco and Sacramento, there is a reason this wondrous location is "The NorCal Playground".

For those who always considered Lake Tahoe their winter travel spot, perhaps it's time to take a summer vacation. The mountain tops are still snow-capped, you can still drink clear water right out of the tap and there are plenty of summer activities to keep you and your family occupied, day and night!

Here are ten activities Lake Tahoe has to offer during this summer:

10: Hiking

Lake Tahoe is insanely beautiful and numerous hiking trails, too treacherous during the snowy winter, become available to the adventurous traveler. The Eagle Rock Hiking Trail, Bayview Head Hiking Trail and Emerald Bay State Park Hiking Trail will take your breath away.

9: Golf

Courses are obstructed by snow in the winter, but come summer, there are over 15 golf courses to practice your drive and take in the fresh air. There is even the American Celebrity Champion Golf Tournament, held each year at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course and it's one of the largest tournaments of its kind in the United States.

8: Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival

Thespians and fellow enthusiasts can enjoy this festival every year, held at the UC Davis Tahoe Science Theater.

7: Rope Courses

Only available during the warmer months, numerous flying foxes exist around the lake, providing one of the most breathtaking experiences - so much so you'll forget you're suspended high above the basin.

6: Bungee and Trampolining

Not for the faint of heart! Lake Tahoe never ceases to provide for the adventurous spirit. If you head to Squaw Valley Adventure, the Sky-Jump Bungee and Trampoline will be waiting for you.

5: Mountain Biking

The Lake Tahoe terrain is not only beautiful, but provides challenging trails for the biking enthusiast. From beginners to advanced riders, grab a bike from Clear Creek, Tahoe and hit the circuit.

4: Fishing

Scattered around the lake are privately owned fishing charters, as well as charters available via one of the numerous lake-side resorts. Whether you like to paddle out and fish on the pristine lake, or step it up and take on fly fishing, you'll find it, but only during the summer months.

3: Water Sports

During the winter, you can still take the paddle steamers across to Emerald Bay. This is a little more comfortable in summer without the frostbite. However, there is a plethora of summer water activities to keep everyone in the family happy - Kayaking, Powerboats, Jet Skis, Surfing, Waterskiing and cruises. Action Water Sports has this and more.

2: Comedy at The Tahoe Improv

One of Lake Tahoe's best kept secrets is its nightlife, and the Tahoe Improv Comedy Club is in full swing all year round. They have introduced a new talent booker, who is bringing some of the biggest names in the business to this mountain paradise and it is not-to-be-missed while you are in town (18 +). Tickets are available at improvtahoe.com

1: Music with the Summer Concert Series at Harvey’s Outdoor Arena

A spectacle not to be missed for the music enthusiast. Each year, Harvey’s puts on an incredible music festival, attracting some of the biggest names in music. The 2017 season is welcoming amazing talent such as Paul Simon (June 25th), Sammy Hagar (July 2nd), Train (July 19), Lenny Kravitz (July 14th) and Jack Johnson (July 28th-29th).
