Festival Mozaic is an annual celebration of classical music that takes place in San Luis Obispo County each July.

With several different concert series, there is something for everyone.

But the best one, in our opinion, is Baroque in the Vines, held on Saturday, July 21 at the breathtaking Serra Chapel in Shandon. The private chapel is built from historical artifacts and castle construction remnants from the Hearst Collection.

The chapel is not normally open to the public, but on this day, concert-goers are welcome to explore the property. Outside is a grassy picnic area, Cabernet Sauvignon grapevines, and 360-degree views from the patio. Inside, you can see gorgeous stained glass and a 13th-century Moorish ceiling from the William Randolph Hearst collection.

It is really quite magical, listening to beautiful music while watching the changing colors of sunset reflect off the chapel’s bell tower.

Tip: For the concert, arrive early in order to stake out the best spot on the patio for your low back chair. We recommend the cheaper patio seating to take in the scenery as well as the music.

You’ll also want a blanket. Wine is not allowed on the historic patio tiles (and they really police it!), so find a spot on the grounds to picnic before the concert starts.

Transporation up the hill begins at 6 PM, which is when the grounds open for picnicking, a glass of Paso Robles wine, and enjoying the beautiful view. Music starts at 7:30 PM.

Baroque Lineup:

•             Johann Sebastian Bach: Brandenburg Concerto No. 1 in F major, BWV 1046

•             Antonio Vivaldi: Mandolin Concerto in G minor, RV 317 & Mandolin Concerto in C major, RV 425 (Joseph Brent, mandolin)

•             Georg Frideric Handel: Suite No. 1 from Water Music
