TASTE News Service, April 2, 2019 — Riotous colors paint the landscape, enviable weather takes hold, hotels offer special rates, and unique events all beckon visitors to visit Sonoma County in the spring.

It's time to shake off the winter doldrums and enjoy the outdoors: Gardens are in bloom — you can stop and smell the roses at Russian River Rose Company. Bud break is happening right now in the vineyards, signaling the start of the 2019 vintage; take a Vineyard Adventure, a free self-guided vineyard tour, for an up-close look.

Wildflowers of every color, shape, and fragrance carpet parks and open spaces throughout the county. Several wineries offer tours through their gardens, which means there's a taste of wine at the end of your stroll.

Take several days to explore this world-renowned wine country without the summer crowds. Wineries offer behind-the-scenes tours, and you may discover your tasting room attendant is the winemaker. The Pacific coastline is also in season: Fishing fleets are active. The whales are migrating and there are several overlooks to see them.

And then there's Earth Day. The more than 60 parks found here are always in season. Discover a new trail that meanders along the Russian River. Go on a high-octane hike up a mountain trail. Soar through the redwoods on a zip line excursion. Or find a quiet, natural place to just sit and breathe.

Sonoma County celebrates this ode to Mother Earth with hikes, lectures, festivals, volunteering clean-ups, and more. Take a What's in Bloom Walk through Quarryhill Botanical Gardens. Encounter Blossoms, Bees, and Barnyard Babies during Farm Trail's spring tour. Search for Earth Day events at www.sonomacounty.com/events.

Sonoma County not only inspires you to uncover new experiences — it will inspire you to uncover something new within yourself. A fresh sense of adventure. A renewed connection to nature. And maybe even a rejuvenated approach to living life, which in turn, will inspire others to come and seek out the same. Sonoma County is where Life Opens Up.

Editor’s note:  Sonoma County Tourism is promoting the idea Experience Sonoma County, where Life Opens Up. They say that just as wine “opens up” when it's allowed to breathe, Sonoma County inspires visitors to open up to new experiences. Just 30 miles north of San Francisco, Sonoma County is one of California's top food and wine destinations, home to more than 425 wineries ranging from rustic to regal.
