Created by local GRAMMY-recognized songwriter Cliff Goldmacher (Keb' Mo', Lisa Loeb, Ke$ha), the 'Sound' was developed through a collaboration between Goldmacher, Creative Sonoma, and Sonoma County Tourism, with partial funding from the National Endowment for the Arts.
“When I was thinking about how to encapsulate Sonoma County, I wanted something that felt organic,” said Cliff Goldmacher, songwriter for the Sonoma Sound. “It had to feel energetic and open and warm. It had to move, because there's a lot of being out here that's about being in nature.”
The soundtrack is part of an ongoing effort to promote Sonoma County's brand attributes, including the many talented creators and makers that call Sonoma County home. The track features local musicians Kevin Carducci (bass and vocals), Mike Emerson (keys), Stella Heath (vocals) and Zachary Morris (percussion). Recorded at White Whale Recording Studio in Santa Rosa, the “Sonoma Sound” is inspired by the region's diverse, maker-centric culture and natural landscapes.
“The Sonoma Sound was created to evoke the emotions and sense of wonder that visitors have when exploring our destination,” said Todd O'Leary, VP of Marketing and Communications at Sonoma County Tourism. “As we say in Sonoma County, 'Life Opens Up' and we think this soundtrack beautifully encapsulates the emotions people feel as they explore this special place.”
The soundtrack will be utilized by Sonoma County Tourism in several different ways. The most prominent of these is that it will serve as the sound bed for a new destination video that will be used at tradeshows, speaking engagements, as well as on SCT's website and social channels. The debut of that video is expected later this summer.
Sonoma County Tourism also has created a webpage where people can learn more about the project - www.sonomacounty.com/sonoma-sound. There, the full soundtrack is available to enjoy. Also featured is a video entitled “The Making of the Sonoma Sound.” Viewers will be treated to a behind-the-scenes look at the day-of recording, including interviews with Cliff Goldmacher, and the musicians who lent their talents to bring the Sonoma Sound to life. Additionally, bios of Goldmacher, and each musician are available to read, including links to find their music online, as well as tips on where they like to listen to live music in Sonoma County.
“This new song will draw attention to our rich music scene in Sonoma County,” said Kristen Madsen, Director of Creative Sonoma. “And SCT's highly visited website will serve as an untraditional distribution channel for the musicians to be heard by new potential audiences.”
Visitors are encouraged to discover how Life Opens Up when exploring the culture of live music in Sonoma County, capturing the rhythmic, melodic harmonies that contribute to healing the mind, body, and soul.
