Fall is harvest time in the Napa wine country. It’s also a great time to enjoy the beautiful early fall weather in this special place.

Safeway Open wine pouring PicmonkeyA taste of Chardonnay, or perhaps some Pinot Noir?

Add to the mix world class food, wine, craft beers, music and the finest professional golfers in the world, and you have the annual Safeway Open PGA Golf Tournament at Napa’s Silverado Resort and Spa.

This year’s four-day festival of professional golf provided a splendid opportunity for attendees to close out September in style. In addition to the early season PGA golf tournament, the first step in the march toward the season-long 2020 FedEx Cup Championship, the event showcased fine varietal wines from twenty-three California wineries, numerous gourmet food vendors and a full bar at the Safeway Food & Wine Pavilion. The facility featured air-conditioned indoor seating and tables a plenty surrounding the large circular bar. The Pavilion’s outdoor seating overlooked the golf course’s Number 1 green on one end and the Number 17 fairway on the other.

Following each day’s golf action, a concert stage in front of the historic Silverado Mansion made for an ideal outdoor setting for the nightly Safeway Open Concert Series, open to all and included with the price of daily admission.

The Safeway Open is a family-friendly venue on the PGA Tour that has seen increasing popularity over the last few years, and it’s easy to see why. The $35 cost for a daily pass included access to nearly all concessions and pavilions. And, it doesn’t get much better than watching PGA Tour players in action up close while enjoying a tasty nosh with a fine Chardonnay, followed by a stroll along the cart paths siding Silverado’s lush green fairways cut through oak studded hills under near perfect Napa Valley

With 355 rooms, the Silverado Resort & Spa features ten outdoor swimming pools, a full-service spa, and two 18-hole members only golf courses that are also open to resort guests. Nightly room rates range from $210 and up. Currently green fees for guests are $189 on the North Course and $159 for the South Course. Or a one-day visit to check out a PGA golf tournament in September is pretty good too.
