TASTE News Service, July 15, 2022 – American Century Celebrity Golf Tournament celebrated its 33rd edition with nationally televised coverage last weekend. The setting—Edgewood Golf Course at Lake Tahoe—was spectacular.

The competition features a purse of $600,000. The tournament is played in a 54-hole modified Stableford format and included such participants as Justin Timberlake, Steph Curry, Charles Barkley, Patrick Mahomes, Tony Romo, Aaron Rodgers, Alfonso Ribeiro, Jerry Rice, Rob Riggle and Larry the Cable Guy, among many others.

To be sure, there were some fine golfers in the field and there was an element of competition. After all, many were current or former professional athletes. All have proven physical talents beyond those of most of the rest of us. And as professionals they are familiar with the value of winning in any game. Last week Tony Romo captured his third American Century title with a five-foot birdie putt on the second playoff hole with Mark Mulder and Joe Pavelski.

However, to the millions watching the two-day event on TV that competition aspect seemed secondary to watching many of these celebrities having fun with each other and bantering with their fans in the gallery.
